Volunteers needed for London Bubble’s Rivers and People

Posted by London Bubble on 16 August 2012
Volunteer your time | Get involved in a project

We are looking for around 12 keen volunteers to help us out with the set up, running and get out of Rivers and People on the evening Sunday 16th September.

About Rivers and People
On the evening of 16th September, musicians, poets, singers, visual artists and sculptors will come together and present an eclectic array of performances to delight Lewisham residents. The event will be inspired by the dramatic regeneration of the Ladywell area – its flora and fauna and river life, as well as local people who enjoy the cafe, skate park, adventure playground, sports facilities and picnic spots along the river Ravensbourne.

London Bubble Theatre Company are well known across London for their outdoor shows in green spaces. Bubble are taking ideas from many local sources including local residents, groups, hospital staff and the Rivers and People project which aims to get people thinking about the health of Lewisham’s rivers and green spaces.

About the Volunteering opportunity
We are looking for 12 people for a minimum of 4 hours between 9am and 11pm.

The morning shift: 9 - 1pm: Assist with the initial preparation for the event.
Meet at London Bubble for 9am and help load the van before heading to Ladywell park to start unloading and general setup along the entirety of the route. Once onsite volunteers will be assigned to a site captain who will be responsible for briefing them as to the needs of that area. This could include setting up of tents/marquees for front of house, wrapping trees to mark out the main "performance spaces along the river" running of power cables and clearing the space of litter that is already there.

The afternoon shift: 1pm - 5pm: Assist with the detailed layout of the event
Assigned to a site captain, volunteers will help set up individual artists’ spaces and could assist with the technical set up including PA's, projectors and lighting.

The evening shift: 5pm - 11pm: Assist with the delivery of the event
This is a slightly longer shift, working alongside Site Captain. Volunteers will be helping ensure anyone coming into the park knows what is going on, that all spaces run smoothly. They will be very involved with whatever is happening during the event but will be supported by trained Site Captains. They will help ensure that the event packs down easily and swiftly, leaving minimal impact on the environment.

Each volunteer will be fully briefed on the day and will have staggered breaks as scheduled by the production manager, they will be working closely alongside a site captain. Any tools needed will be provided by London Bubble.
